Some call it “dark rave”, others prefer (yes-it-still-requires-quotations) “witch house”. We’re calling it a pretty awesome debut video from an upstart duo out of Miami.
Sugar nights is Khadija Bhuiyan and Michael Donaldson. The high-school friends, having high musical compatibility and an affinity for a variety of instruments, decided to form an eclectic electronic group under the name Sugar Nights. For their sultry track, “Untitled”, the two teamed up with Richard Vergez to put together a time-synced video collage that seems to perfectly translate the song’s dark moods:

Most of their tracks tease with seductive moods, fluctuating between dark/witchy trip-hop and more Miami-flavored house music (hints of the 90s?). Their recent self-titled EP dropped this year under Overthrow Music Authority, and has been well received both by Miami’s indie/electronic scene as well as the interweb’s blogger underground.

As many of you know, Brasky hosted our first annual BRASKYCon meetup this past weekend. We chose the Postcard Inn on St. Pete Beach and reserved a handful of rooms for 2 nights. We had a total of 22 attendees if you don’t count the millions tuning in from around the world. Most were present when we held our award ceremony, featuring a bunch of semi-absurd awards and superlatives. The video below shows the impromptu “ceremony” in our cozy master suite on night #1:

Again, this was just night #1. The remainder of our weekend was filled with summer sun gayness, spontaneous displays of braskiness, and late night excursions into the Gulf. We’ll definitely be doing this again next year, so start thinking about your excuses now.

Last week I was talking to my boss in our office in downtown Miami office when suddenly something caught his eye – “…wait–is that really happening?” I follow his gaze out the window to spot a man getting vigorously humped by a large black dog — right on the sidewalk on Miami’s otherwise-posh Brickell Avenue.

Instinctively, I exploded out of the office with camera phone in hand and joined a small group of bystanders, all scrambling for a picture and/or an eyeful of the spectacle. In November, YouTube announced that they would soon start allowing their users to serve up videos in the goddy splendor of 1080p (psst: that’s Blu-Ray’s resolution, “Full HD”). While this isn’t the first appearance of streaming 1080p video online, YouTube’s network is best known for its sheer breadth and volume – not video fidelity.
Months crawled by without any YouTube encounters of 1080p (personally), but yesterday = eureka.
