Universus Vol III: A Post Dubstep Affair?

Circuitree Records is back with the part 3 of 4 in their Universus compilation series.

Universus Vol III takes the campaign in a new direction, with more artists–13–and a greater variety of styles. The prevailing theme? You guessed it: The description-less “post-dubstep” (Remember when I sheepishly described Mount Kimbie as post-dubstep? Hint: there is no such thing as post-dubstep. Or dubstep.)

Circuitree is letting us share a highlight track from the mix – a hi-fi heater with FlyLo-esque soundscapes from Aligning Minds.

Meet: Spies on Bikes

Let’s be honest: music geeks like to parade the most exclusive, unknown music they can find, a process that often means friends of said geek must endure mediocre tunes. I’m probably as guilty as anyone. Truth is, even the indiest of indie music comes into our awareness through the marketing efforts of small labels, so it’s rare that we can offer something truly fresh and un-hyped. Today we offer local newcomer looking to self-publish his first EP – Spies On Bikes.

Mexicans with Guns: New EP + Interview

Mexicans with GunsSomewhere in Texas, the neighbors haven’t been getting good sleep. Pictures are rattling off walls, and car alarms offer clues on the recent whereabouts of a mysterious masked man. His real name is known to few, but most know him as Mexicans with Guns. Those who have seen him report bass-heavy assaults on popular musicians, slicing and distorting their most valued creations and coldly showcasing his work in dark, smoky rooms around the US (Sample the evidence below). Mexicans with Guns is a wanted man.

Recently we received contact from the fugitive who agreed to spare our subwoofers in exchange for a broadcast of his most recent sinister plans: An EP? Perhaps Mexicans with Guns is “merely” a musician whose made his name by peppering the underground with fiery dubstep remixes. Perhaps he is something more nefarious. But after sampling his first EP, Me Gusto, we thought our readers should be on high alert.

Decide for yourself after reading our conversation with Mexicans with Guns.

Download Any Song Ever

Mark our words: 2010 will be the year of the stream. Music stream services are emerging every month, busy negotiating agreements that keep their inventories growing.

analog

With services like Pandora, imeem, Spotify, LaLa, and Grooveshark breaking onto the scene, it’s becoming increasingly easy to find music online.

Ever wonder why you can’t just “record” the music as it comes in? Well, you can. Here’s how.

Capturing Streams
Turns out there are many programs out there that can do this; some are better than others. I recommend WonderShare’s Streaming Audio Recorder. After you’ve hit record it will automatically detect when the song starts playing (if it isn’t already), and also detects when it ends. This actually allows you to set it to record and it will neatly rip each song on a stream playlist.
